conferences, and document translations.
He is a Certified Spanish Court Interpreter serving the following
counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and
Ventura. Mario Medal is also
available for out of state and out of country interpretation services.
A certified court interpreter must posses
several qualifications, all of which Julio Mario Medal has achieved. The first qualification is a high proficiency in
both English and the certified non-English language, such as Arabic, Eastern
Armenian, Western Armenian, Cantonese, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Mandarin,
Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese. Secondly, the
person must have a wide general knowledge characteristic of what a minimum of
two years of general education at a college or university would provide. And
lastly, the person must perform the three major types of court interpreting:
consecutive interpreting, simultaneous interpreting, and sight translation.
To become a court interpreter, you must first take
and pass several exams including: the Written Exam, English Oral Proficiency
Exam, and Oral Proficiency Exam in the non-English language. After taking and
passing these exams, you must take online orientation courses pertaining to
being an interpreter. Once this is done, you submit an application to the
Judicial Council. Within the first
two-year compliance period, you must attend a Judicial Council Code of Ethics
Workshop. Lastly, you must meet ongoing court interpreter professional
development requirements.
